This section examines how capitalism has engendered a modern global capitalist empire that knows no boundaries. By using the main ideas brought together under the young critical criminology sub-genre of social harm an alternative understanding of the world will be constructed in order to explain the ever-expanding global capitalist order. The power of capital within a historical materialist context will be demonstrated by using a deep analysis of the roots and causes of actual social harm. First, by reference to the academy before expanding to other areas and tools that capitalist states have developed over the last half a millennium that gives capital such a dominant position today.
